Ways to Keep Your Home Healthy During the Flu Season

Winter in Texas brings two kinds of colds. The chilly outside air and the virus that can wreak havoc on your immune system! This time of year it seems like people are getting sick left and right. And if one person in your home is sick, it seems like it can inevitably spread to everyone else. So our Strittmatter’s team wants to share some tips on how to keep your home as germ-free and your family as healthy as possible this season.

Clean smarter, not harder

When someone in your home is sick, it may be tempting to clean the entire house all at once. Don’t stress yourself out! Start a cleaning routine that focuses on one part of the house one day and another part of the house on another day. By getting the whole family involved and sticking to a schedule, you won’t get overwhelmed when it seems like the house needs a cleaning overhaul.

If someone in your family does get sick, it’s a good idea to spend a little extra time in the cleaning details. Remember to disinfect doorknobs, remote controls, phones, light switches, and handles that everyone touches.

Keep the bathroom germs under control

When cold and flu season strikes your home, it’s important to keep the bathroom as germ free as possible to stay healthy. Be sure to remember those plumbing fixtures. Keep disinfectant wipes close at hand to quickly disinfect toilet handles, sink knobs, and door knobs. (Just remember not to flush them down the toilet when you are finished with them!)

Also, make sure to use the bathroom fan after taking a steamy shower to help clear your sinuses. Moisture can harbor germs and mold, causing them to spread. Zap the extra moisture to help keep the sickness under control in your home.

Bonus tip: don’t forget to replace your toothbrush after being sick!

Freshen up the linens

Spending days sick in bed means it’s time to wash those sheets. Be sure to wash the sheets in hot water to kill all the germs that might be lurking within. Typically, bed sheets should be washed once a week. But when you’re sweating it out with a fever, aim for washing or switching out the sheets every day.

Keep air flowing free

Like we previously mentioned, using fans can help moisture from accumulating and spreading germs and mold. But remember to clean your ceiling fan blades too! You’d be surprised by how much dust and germs can get trapped on the blades.

If someone in your home gets sick, remember to swap out your air filters. Especially if you are experiencing any coughing or upper respiratory symptoms. A fresh air filter will minimize the dust and allergens in the air that could make your symptoms worse.

Another way to keep your family healthy year round is the Air Scrubber Plus air purification system. It’s not your ordinary air purification system. The Air Scrubber Plus works to reduce contaminants inside your home. These contaminants can come from school, work, the grocery store, or anywhere else. They follow you home and end up on your countertops, floors, and door knobs. The Air Scrubber Plus contains ActivePure Technology, proven to destroy up to 99% of all surface contaminants and 90% of airborne contaminants, working to keep your family healthy.

In addition to aggravating a cold or the flu, contaminants in the air can also stir up allergy symptoms. Trying to get a restful night of sleep when you’re sneezing and coughing is no fun. The Air Scrubber Plus can help you get better sleep so you can fight off that virus!
