Nothing beats the feeling of walking into a clean bathroom. But you don’t have to drown it in chemicals to get that pristine look! At Strittmatter, we love eco-friendly and green alternatives. So we have rounded up our top tips for keeping your bathroom sparkling clean without the harsh chemicals.
Vinegar is a staple of eco-friendly cleaning. White vinegar is a mild acid that works to loosen dirt, disinfect, and neutralizes odors. When diluted with a little bit of water, it can be used to clean your shower, toilet, and counters in the bathroom. You can even use a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar to clean your mirrors and windows. Mix the two in a spray bottle, spritz the mirror, and wipe away with recycled newspaper or an old t-shirt or rag. And don’t worry, it dries without an odor so your bathroom won’t be left smelling like salad dressing.
Baking soda is also an excellent green cleaning agent when you need some extra scrubbing power. Cut through build up in the tub or on grout by sprinkling some baking soda, mixing with a bit of water, and scrubbing with a soft brush or toothbrush. If you need some additional power, you can substitute water for vinegar to bring the extra clean.
Lemons are another eco-friendly cleaning tool. The acidic properties break down soap scum and dirt so they can easily be wiped away! To use, cut a lemon and rub on the area you want to clean. Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly to keep new bacteria from growing. You can also add some freshly squeezed lemon drops to your spray bottle of vinegar and water for some extra fresh cleaning!
Essential oils are great for their natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties. You can refresh your bathroom by adding a few drops of your favorite scent to a cotton ball and stashing it in a corner. You’ll be greeted by a wonderful, relaxing scent every time you walk into the room!
If you are still wary about diving into DIY cleaning products, you can ease the transition by purchasing eco-friendly cleaning products from the store. This is a great list to get you started in purchasing green products.
